The Infrastructure Rehabilitation Program – Roads is being implemented through an Indefinite Quantity Contract with Louis Berger Group/Black and Veatch. FY 07 funds will be used for the design and/or construction of about 500 km of road and the Panjwai Bridge; capacity building and institutional strengthening of road agencies; and the operation and maintenance of completed roads. The engineering design for two roads will be completed in FY 08. The construction of the bridge will be completed in Fall 2009. Construction on three roads will be completed in FY 08. Completing these roads is a U.S. Government priority, as they will increase trade opportunities, provide farming communities better access to markets, facilitate the response time of military agencies to security concerns, and increase the local population’s access to social and government services. The program falls under the Basic Transport Infrastructure Financing sub-element. For more information, see http://www.irp-af.com/.
