Business Skills Training Promotes Peace

USAID supports training to the Afghan National Business Association for Peace

USAID’s Afghanistan Small and Medium Enterprise Development (ASMED) project financially supported a series of business skills development trainings provided to members of the Afghan National Business Association for Peace (ANBAP) in Kabul from July 21 to Aug 10, 2008.

ANBAP is an Afghan national association that was established with a grant from USAID in 2007 and recruits members who were ex-combatants in Afghanistan.  The association is actively working to reintegrate its members to civilian life in various ways mainly providing them vocational and business skills development trainings to start their own business opportunities or undertake jobs in other existing ones.

Entrepreneur Limited, a local Business Development Service provider, conducted the recent batch of four trainings in Micro Business Administration, Basic Accounting, Marketing and Business Management to a total of 25 participants.

Speaking about the importance and effectiveness of the capacity building programs, Mr. Arifullah Alokozay, the president of ANBAP said that, “These trainings are valuable opportunities for the ex-combatants to build skills for business management and to enable them to use their energy and efforts towards developing civilian lives.  In doing so, we are taking an important step towards sustainable peace and progress in the country.  USAID’s assistance in this regard is also very important and we appreciate it.”

Hailing the training program as essential for their integration to civil life, Mr. Wahidullah Amini, a trainee in the program mentioned that, “I am very happy to be trained in micro business management.  After I complete my training, I am planning to apply for a small loan and use it for starting a business.  This program has helped me learn the essentials for applying for a loan and using it to start a business; therefore making it easy for me to start civilian life.”
