The Textbook Printing and Distribution Project is a grant to Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA) beginning in March 2007 and continuing annually through February 2011. This project, a follow-on from a previous grant agreement with DANIDA, will finance DANIDA to act as fiduciary agent for the printing of new curriculum textbooks for Ministry of Education primary schools for grades 1 - 6. DANIDA will also work with the Ministry of Education to ensure that textbooks are distributed appropriately. The co-financing of the print run and distribution of textbooks in 2007 will result in an estimated 26 million new textbooks printed. A DANIDA advisor will provide expert technical assistance and guidance to the Ministry. This tripartite collaboration between the U.S. Government (USG), DANIDA, and the Ministry of Education will help ensure that all Afghan students in primary schools have better access to quality education. As in the previous agreement, DANIDA will ensure that no USG funds are used for the printing of religious textbooks.
