Afghanistan Integrated Water Resources Management Conference

On Thursday July 19, 2007 the 1st Vice President Ahmad Zia Masoud along with dignitaries from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, German Organization for Technical Cooperation, Ministry of Energy and Water, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Public Health officially announced the Integrated Water Resources Management Conference at the Serena Hotel.

The one-day conference covered relevant, contemporary water resource issues in critical areas such as power, health, irrigation, urban and rural water supply in addition to Government of Afghanistan policy framework and donor strategies.

Organized by the International Relief and Development, Inc. (IRD), the conference hosted approximately 80 national and international participants from developed and developing countries, including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Commission, Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Canadian International Development Agency, Islamic Development Bank, UN Environment Program, UN Development Program and the World Health Organization with the goal of better managing Afghanistan’s water resources.
