This October, USAID’s Small and Medium Enterprise Development Program supported an exhibition for the Takhar Women’s Handicrafts Skills Association in the provincial capital, Taloqn city. The exhibition showcased women’s handicrafts and provided them with an opportunity to gain new customers and spread the word about their products. Over 500 visitors attended the event, including members of foreign organizations who will help the women sell their products on the international market. The exhibition also provided Takhar’s women, many of them war widows and aspiring entrepreneurs, with a chance to meet each other and discuss ways to work together. This was the first USAID-supported event to promote and market Takhar’s handicrafts, and the association believes it marks the beginning of strong growth for the province’s women-owned businesses.
