On June 11, 2009, Nangarhar Public University (NPU) awarded Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees to 80 students. These students are NPU’s first recipients of BBA degrees, having studied business management, accounting, and marketing under the instruction of some of the university’s top professors.
Until now, a business degree was not available to students attending public universities in eastern Afghanistan. Three decades of conflict and a lack of investment in the educational system had left Afghanistan’s higher public educational system in a poor state, unable to train a new generation of business leaders. NPU is the first institution in Afghanistan to offer a BBA degree program, providing students with the knowledge to open new businesses and manage existing firms.
USAID and the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education worked together to establish NPU’s BBA program. The program is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and recognized country-wide as a leading business degree program, producing highly skilled graduates for Afghanistan’s growing private sector economy.
