Provincial Reconstruction Teams

Objective: Strengthening the reach and legitimacy of the central government in outlying regions

Overview

Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) are designed to improve security, extend the reach of the Afghan government, and facilitate reconstruction in priority provinces. Their core objective is to implement projects that will improve stability so that more traditional forms of development assistance can resume.

اولین خط رنوی در ولایت زابل افتتاح گردید
کابل، افغانستان – اولین طیاره تیم بازسازی ولایتی از میدان هوائی جدید ولایت زابل هفته گذشته در میدان هوایی کابل نشست نمود. طیارات تیم بازسازی ولایتی که در خدمت سازمانهای متعدد انکشافی قرار دارد، هفته گذشته از قلات به سوی کابل پرواز نمود. هواپیماهای تیم بازسازی ولایتی هفته دوبار پرواز خواهند داشت. تکمیل اولین خط رنوی در ولایت زابل زمینه را برای انکشاف، رشد اقتصادی و ارتباطات مخابروی در این ولایت فراهم خواهد ساخت

Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) are designed to improve security, extend the reach of the Afghan government, and facilitate reconstruction in priority provinces.

PRT Snapshot

  • USAID has 20+ personnel at 19 PRTs across Afghanistan
  • PRT projects include: community and government buildings, clinics, schools, capacity building for government, radio stations, gender activities, agriculture, water/irrigation projects, energy (micro-power), and roads projects
  • 440+ projects completed under the Quick Impact Program from 2003 - 2007
  • USAID awarded $249 million for the Local Governance and Community Development program focusing on support to local governance, community infrastructure, and conflict management 
  • The first PRT was created in Gardez in December 2002
  • A PRT typically consists of 60-250 military personnel, a USAID field officer, and a State Department political Officer.
