The province of Laghman comprises a Dari- and Pashto-speaking Pashtun majority, with Kochi nomads bringing their herds to graze in the winter months. While much of the province’s economy was destroyed during the war with the Soviet Union, the region continues to host both agricultural and mining activities. The paved Jalalabad Highway connects the province to major commercial centers, which has recently boosted the economy. While most of the area lacks a modern infrastructure, hydro-electric stations provide electricity to approximately half the population.
