Afghanistan's Provinces

Nimroz

Capital Zaranj
Population 140,000
Area 41,005  km²

The sparsely populated province of Nimroz is bordered by both Iran and Pakistan. Many of Nimroz’s Dari-speaking Pashtun and Baloch residents fled to neighboring countries during the years of war and Taliban rule, and have since returned. This province has been particularly burdened by severe drought, but its farmers continue to produce crops. Nimroz is severely lacking in basic services, and unemployment in the region is high.
