Faryab

Capital Maymana
Population 884,000
Area 20,293  km²

The rural province of Faryab is irrigated by the Gurizan and Maymana rivers. Faryab has the nation’s most extensive pistachio forests, and major efforts are being put into rehabilitating the province’s irrigation system as the recent drought severely affected the agricultural economy. Faryab is also rich in mineral resources, including salt, marble, and oil. The region’s population is a mix of Uzbek, Turkmen, and Pashtun. Due to its remote location, the province does not receive sufficient public services.
