USAID supports polio surveillance and supplemental immunization activities throughout Afghanistan. With USAID funding, WHO works closely with the Ministry of Public Health to implement and strengthen the national polio surveillance system including detection, investigation, confirmation, and response to cases of acute flaccid paralysis, the signal condition for polio. Afghanistan is one of only four countries in the world that is endemic for polio.
