The USAID funded Afghan Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation (SWSS) project has been addressing persistent hygiene and sanitation challenges in Afghanistan. In December 2010, the project started construction of 12 public latrines and 9 clean water reservoirs in Takhti Istalif community of Istalif District in Kabul Province.
Construction of public latrines and water reservoirs will offer safer and more hygienic disposal of human waste and provide people with clean drinking water to reduce mortality and morbidity rates in children under 5, resulting from water borne diseases,” said Istalif District Agriculture Manager, Mr. Nabi Khan. The project is expected to benefit approximately 1,500 beneficiaries among the current three hundred households.
