Members of Parliament participate in an anti-corruption coalition meeting

Though it is barely three months old, Afghanistan’s new anti-corruption coalition has managed to enlist crucial support from sections of the Afghan parliament. Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi head of the lower house of parliament, recently met 12 members of the coalition and promised to support its fight against corruption. Mr Ibrahimi crucially offered to encourage members of parliament to join the coalition alongside Humerai Ayubi, MP.

The coalition, which comprises 45 civil society groups led by the Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau, is supported by USAID’s 4A Project. Mr Ibrahimi promised to facilitate the coalition’s work by enabling a couple of activists to participate in the18 permanent commissions set up by the lower house. Welcoming the formation of the coalition Mr. Ibrahimi discussed the programs it planned. He said civil society organizations play a vital role in the development of a country and Afghanistan needed such groups.

USAID’s Assistance for Afghanistan’s Anticorruption Authority or 4A project has provided support to Afghan government institutions and civil society groups that fight corruption from 2010.
